Cluster Liturgy Committee

The Cluster Liturgy Committee is the orchestrating body of all matters that are central and peripheral to the Eucharistic Liturgies celebrated at the Cluster Parishes of St. John the Evangelist and St. Anthony's. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling, overseeing, evaluating, enhancing, and planning our Cluster's liturgies. In fulfilling its mission, the Cluster Liturgy Committee is divided into a number of standing and ad hoc subcommittees. Ad hoc subcommittees are created on an as needed basis and typically deal with special events and matters that do not directly pertain to one of the standing subcommittees.

The Cluster Liturgy Committee holds organizational meetings on a monthly basis, while the standing and ad hoc subcommittees meet in the interim. These meetings are open to all. New members are always welcome!

Committee Chair: Andrew Krakat

The standing subcommittees include:

Liturgical Ministries

Responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling, and continuing catechesis of Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers, and Acolytes.

Decorating

Designs, plans, and coordinates the decorating of our Cluster Parishes with emphasis on enhancing the spiritual atmosphere of our Cluster Parishes through aesthetical design. The decorating subcommittee is always in need of volunteers, especially during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.

Communications

Works with our Cluster's office staff in maintaining the Parish bulletin and website, and works towards unifying our Cluster's communication efforts.

Hospitality / Outreach

Works toward increasing the experience of hospitality in our Cluster Parishes and coordinates these efforts with the other subcommittees, the Youth Ministry, and any parishioners who volunteer their time and talent. Additionally, the Hospitality/Outreach subcommittee works to create a connection between our Cluster Parishes and the surrounding community, attempts to bring the fallen away back to the Church, and actively seeks new members.

Theological Readings

This group meets on a monthly basis to discuss new thinkings on liturgy, and brainstorm ways to apply the new thinkings to our Cluster's liturgies. In preparation for each meeting, group members read a variety of articles on the Church, the liturgy, etc. Sometimes group members read common articles and sometimes group members read different articles.

Homily Preparation

This group meets on a monthly basis and provides members of the congregation with an opportunity to participate in the liturgy by joining with fellow members of the congregation to reflect on the scriptures for the coming month and shape the homilies you hear during Mass. In preparation for each meeting, group members read the scripture readings for the coming month and jot down ideas on how the scriptures touched them.

Fr. Carlino would like all members of the congregation to make a one-time commitment to attend one homily preparation group session each year. If you want to attend more than one session, you are more than welcome to do so.

Pastoral Care Committee

The Pastoral Care Committee brings the healing ministry of Jesus to the sick, infirmed elderly, home bound and other confined members of the parish community.

The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month (excluding the months of July and August).

Music Ministry

God has bestowed upon His people the gift of music and song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises. Sacramental music and singing together in church expresses so well the presence of God to his people.

Effective preparation of liturgical song that fosters the maximum participation of the gathered assembly is a cooperative venture that respects the essential role of a variety of persons with mutual competencies:

* Bishop * Priest * Deacon * Gathered Liturgical Assembly * The choir * Lector
* Psalmist * Cantor * Organist and other instrumentalists.

In our parish, this takes place in our church as well as our school:
* Our Organist/Choir Director is Janet Rainey
* Organist at the 5:00 PM Sunday evening Mass is Paul Abate
* Coordinator of Ministries - Sr. Joan Vlaun
* Cantors are coordinated by Janet Rainey and Paul Abate
* Liturgy Committee is chaired by Andrew Krakat
* School Liturgical Coordination is handled by Diane Galarneau

Human Concerns Committee

The Human Concerns Committee is primarily a service group striving to better the lives of the poor and disabled in our community. Some of the committee's work involves the programs of Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM) of which we are a member church. We generally meet in the evening of the second Thursday of the month. New members are always welcome!
